Jason Apsey formed EnVision in April 1997 while studying towards his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the then University of Natal. The original business model was to assist mechanical engineers, industrial designers and other innovators with their product designs and simulations (finite element analysis).
From 1997 to early 2013, EnVision also operated as a software solutions provider and consultancy to customers across multiple disciplines: sugar, automotive, packaging, military, tooling (metal pressings, injection moulding, blow moulding), plant and machinery, academic institutions, point of purchase, fabrication, maritime, mining, etc. This proved invaluable in building an understanding of the needs and issues facing a broad range of industries.
In 2004 Jason jointly formed Rapid Prototyping Services, which in 2010 was absorbed into EnVision. Rapid Prototyping Services was the first bureau of its kind in KZN and one of the first of its kind in South Africa. This extended EnVision’s service offerings with physical testing facilities (fit, form and function). The investment was for professional-level equipment for customers wanting parts grown in plastic comprising ABS and polycarbonate.
Broader-scoped projects spanned brand creation, product development, tooling-up, production, assembly and packaging and even web hosting with merchant services.
EnVision halted its customer-facing operations in June 2017.
